Established in New York City in 1991, Chameleon Fine Lighting has assembled one of the most important collections of antique lighting to be found anywhere. Proprietors Robert Nesle Degiarde and John Bishop Harvey have traveled the globe in search of the the rarest and finest examples of American and European lighting from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Harvey and Degiarde began their quest at their first showroom in a family-owned building in Soho where Chameleon became known to the design trade for fine chandeliers, wall lights and table lamps in myriad styles to suit or adapt to any environment...hence the company's name.

 The business partners furthered their training in lighting excellence under the tutelage of Albert R. Nesle, Degiarde's grandfather and founder of the famed chandelier showroom on E. 57th Street in NYC which bears his name. That training took the form of auction viewings, estate sales and buying trips with Nesle around the country and around the world to countries as far as India in their hunt for important English and European lighting. Due in no small part to his guidance, Chameleon has also collected some of the finest examples of American lighting by such esteemed companies as E.F. Caldwell of NY, where Nesle actually worked early in his career.

Chameleon has evolved much since the early days; we now have a large NYC showroom in the design district across from the D&D Building and a comprehensive website which has become an important tool for decorators worldwide...but we haven't forgotten our roots. In keeping with a tradition of quality and a respect for history which truly spans generations but with a modern eye towards decoration suited to today's styles and tastes, Chameleon greets the next century with a line of historically faithful replicas based on antique designs we have collected over the years. Imbued with the same quality, character and harmony of design of the antiques, our Signature Line maintains tradition--form and function--but conforms to modern UL electrical code. Appropriate for commercial and residential applications alike, these timeless designs are built to our stringent specifications with age-old bronze casting techniques that result in a product that will not only stand the test of time, but like a fine wine, become richer with age.
